On behalf of the JCCC Kendo Club, I would like to thank all the referees, volunteers and participants for an enjoyable Ontario Open Senior Kendo Championships held at Leaside High School on Sunday November 10. The tournament had over 180 registered participants with Kendoka travelling from Calgary, Buffalo, Detroit, Quebec (province) and Halifax. We also thank our special guests - Mr. Koezuka, Consulate General of Japan and Yukiko Koriyama from Japan.
At this year's takikai, The Koriyama Fighting Spirit Trophy / Award was introduced and awarded by Yukiko Koriyama. During Yukiko's stay in Canada during 1999 ~ 2000, she inspired many Kendoka in Ontario with her fighting spirit and character. It was a pleasure to have Yukiko travel from Japan for the tournament.
