Mu Mon Kai 2012 Iaido Taikai

Mu Mon Kai, in conjunction with the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto, are proud to introduce the 1st Mu Mon Kai Iaido Open Taikai. The team that brought you the '08, '09, '11 Ontario Iaido Opens and the '10 Canadian Iaido Open will be raising the bar this year, producing the most authentic Iaido taikai experience outside Japan.

Participants can look forward to a full day of Iaido competition, Koryu demonstrations, and vendors available for equipment purchase. 4 Dan and up may also be asked to referee some of the lower rank matches. A referee seminar (4 Dan+ only) will be held on Friday night (Sept 14) at the JCCC from 9:15pm to 10:45pm.

CKF Invests in development of Iaido and Jodo

The CKF is pleased to announce the composition of the Iaido and Jodo Development Fund Committee for 2012.

The CKF has increased the Iaido and Jodo Development fund allocation to $5000 (a 25% increase from 2011). The purpose of the fund is to support the development of Iaido and Jodo in Canada. We encourage all dojo active in Iaido or Jodo (or both) to apply for funding. Applications are sent to the section chairs and the application forms are available in the Iaido and Jodo sections (http://kendo-canada.com/iaido/ckf.html and http://kendo-canada.com/jodo/ckf.html)

Tachi Uchi no Kurai Seminar

This fall's Tachi Uchi no Kurai seminar will be held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto. Goyo Ohmi Sensei and Kim Taylor Sensei will lead the session starting from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Refreshments and snacks will be available during the break.

Please note that the seminar is only open to those with an CKF/FIK rank of Ikkyu or above. Due to space limitations, the first 30 registrations will be accepted, and the rest going to a waiting list in case of cancellations. You will be notified by Oct. 30 whether or not you've made the initial 30.

Please download the registration form and email to Hanna Ikeda-Suen by October 29. An additional fee will be charged for late submissions.

Ottawa Iaido Seminar

The annual Ottawa Iaido seminar with Kim Taylor will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Practice will be from 11:00am to 5:00pm.The seminar will be held at the Albion-Heatherington Community Centre at 1560 Heatherington Road. A map can be found HERE.The cost for the seminar will be $40 per person, payabale on the day of the seminar.

Thunder Bay Iaido Seminar and Grading

October 22-23, 2011

On the fourth weekend of October, Rai Un Kai will be hosting its annual Iaido Seminar with Ohmi Sensei. This year, there will also be an official CKF Iaido grading on Sunday, October 23 at 1:00pm. Registration information for the seminar can be found at http://my.tbaytel.net/etribe/Seminars.html

Registration for the grading, as always, is through the CKF. Guelph Seminar Completed

The Guelph Iaido/Jodo seminar was, once again, a huge success with over 100 Iaido and Jodo students participating from all over Canada and the United States. With special attendance by the heads of the Iaido & Jodo divisions of the AJKF, the president and the chief referees of the Iaido & Jodo divisions of the CKF, the seminar was officially named the "Eastern Canada Iaido and Jodo Seminar and Grading". Congratulations go to everyone who passed their grading, we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

The Iaido sensei from Japan have been confirmed as Kishimoto Chihiro (Hanshi 8 DAN), Hatakenaka Atsumi (Kyoshi 7 DAN), Tsubaki Fumio (Kyoshi 7 DAN).

Grading time change

To align ourselves with the AJKF and FIK regulations, the practice period between 1 DAN and 2 DAN has been shortened to one year.

CKF Iaido grading

November 28 & December 5, 2009

The 2009 Winter CKF Iaido Gradings have completed with great success:

The Eastern Grading, held at the Etobicoke Olympium on December 5, 2009, had 62 participants challenging ranks from 1 KYU to 6 DAN.

The Western Grading, held at the Steveston Martial Arts Center on November 28, 2009, had 5 participants challenging ranks from 1 KYU to 3 DAN.

SDK 2011 Spring Iaido Seminar

Running from May 20-23, Canada will once again host Kishimoto Chihiro Sensei (MSR Hanshi 8 DAN) who is head of the iaido section for the ZNKR / FIK.

Hatakenaka Sensei (MJER Kyoshi 7 DAN) and Tsubaki Sensei (MSR Kyoshi 7 DAN) will also be teaching Iaido, along with Ohmi Sensei (MJER Renshi 7 DAN) and Cruise Sensei (MSR Renshi 7 DAN) from Toronto.
