National Championships Postponed
Due to the on-going uncertainty and health risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the CKF Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to postpone the 20th Canadian National Kendo Championships, scheduled to be held July 24-27 in Burnaby, BC. This postponement extends to the Annual General Meeting as well as all scheduled activities surrounding the Championships.
While the future of the pandemic remains unclear, the health and safety of players, referees, and their families is our top priority. Health and Medical Leaders at both the Federal and Provincial levels have advised the on-going restriction of large gatherings, travel, and close physical contact. Postponing the Championships supports the efforts made by all Canadians to help contain the spread of the virus and stay safe.
The Canadian Championships are held every three years and we understand that canceling the championships would be disappointing for many athletes. Therefore, the CKF will continue to monitor federal and provincial guidelines in an effort to schedule the Championships once it is safe for us to gather together again.
As all of our members across the country continue to be away from their regular and familiar training schedules, many individuals have stepped up to find creative ways to virtually train together. Our strength and character will be tested during this time of adversity, but we are always stronger when we can come together.
The CKF will provide regular updates on the scheduling of future events, providing as much lead-up time as possible for participants to prepare for these events. We urge all of our members to be patient and take social responsibility during this extremely difficult time.
Updates will be made through the CKF mailing list as well as the CKF Facebook Page.
