The board of directors has approved a revised grading policy. This policy is available in English here and will be translated into French soon.

The policy brings CKF kendo grading standards into line with international standards. Effective this year, candidates for ikkyu will no longer be required to demonstrate kata, instead they will be required to demonstrate the Kendo Kihonwaza Keiko Ho. Kata requirements for all other ranks are moved up one dan, so now shodan candidates do tachi 1-3 and the first dan requiring kodachi kata is yondan.

Technical requirements for iaido and jodo are unchanged. However the policy does formalize the requirement for written exams for all arts, and also formalizes the requirements for shogo.

The policy includes a section on registering foreign dan or shogo. CKF recognizes dan or shogo from any FIK country. There is a $50 fee to register a dan or shogo obtained outside Canada.

Finally, as discussed at the by-law meeting, a policy has been set to cover the payment of back dues. That policy is available here and will be translated into French soon.

Neil Gendzwill, CKF Secretary
