The Canadian National Iaido Championships (CNIC) is held once every three years and brings together competitors, judges, officials, and practitioners from across Canada. More than a competition, the CNIC is an opportunity to deepen bonds through shared practice and challenge — guided by the spirit of kōkenchiai (交剣知愛), understanding and respect forged through the sword. The 2026 edition marks the 3rd championships, hosted in Ottawa, our nation’s capital.

ABOUT THE CNIC

The Canadian National Iaido Championships is held every 3 years, and rotates across the country from East to West. The inaugural event was held from August 30 – September 1, 2013 in Toronto, Canada; followed by Montreal from September 3 – 5, 2016. The third iteration of this national tournament is expected to be hosted in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2024.
