This year, CKF is excited to announce a call for expression of interest to high school age kendoka in Canada for the 50th Kaiseiki (魁星旗) High School Kendo Tournament to be held March 29-31, 2023. (https://www.kendo.or.jp/competition/kaiseiki-50th/). This is a major tournament held annually at the end of March in Akita, Japan.
CKF has received a special invitation from the hosting organization – Akita Kendo Federation – through Shigetaka Kamata Sensei (Head Instructor of Etobicoke Kendo & Iaido Club). Next year, Kaiseiki will be marking this 50th anniversary with a special event.
The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Canadian passport holder
- Date of birth between year 2004 to 2006. You will be 16 to 18 years old (high school age in Japan) at the time of the tournament
- Kendo 1 dan or above
Expectation:
- Commit to travel to Japan for the period of March 24-31, 2023.
- Participate in the Canadian Junior National Championship planned for May 2022
- Commit to participating in training camps prior to event (place/date to be determined)
- Parent/Guardian consent and commitment required for candidates under 18
- Upon selection, sign player participation agreement
There will be financial support for the players from the CKF Kendo Development Fund and Kamata sensei, and each player/club will be required to contribute a share. The exact budget has not been decided. More details (cost, timeline, etc) will be shared as they become available.
The deadline to submit your expression of interest will be March 31, 2022.

Cette année, la fédération canadienne est fière d’annoncer un appel aux candidatures aux kendoka du secondaire du Canada pour le 50ième tournoi de kendo Kaiseiki (魁星旗) des écoles secondaires au Japon qui aura lieu du 29 au 31 mars 2023. (https://www.kendo.or.jp/competition/kaiseiki-50th/). Il s’agit d’un tournoi majeur qui se tient chaque année à la fin du mois de mars à Akita, au Japon.
La fédération a reçu une invitation spéciale de l’organisation hôte, la Fédération Kendo Akita, par l’intermédiaire de Shigetaka Kamata sensei (Etobicoke Kendo & Iaido Club) car l’édition 2023 du tournoi sera un événement spécial pour souligner son 50ième anniversaire.
Les participants devront remplir les critères d’éligibilité suivants :
- Titulaire d’un passeport canadien;
- Date de naissance entre 2004 et 2006 (inclusivement). Avoir entre 16 et 18 ans (âge de l’école secondaire au Japon) au moment du tournoi;
- Détenteur du grade de 1er dan au kendo ou plus.
Attentes pour les participants :
- S’engager à se rendre au Japon pour la période du 24 au 31 mars 2023;
- Participer au championnat national junior canadien prévu en mai 2022;
- S’engager à participer à des camps d’entraînement avant l’événement (lieu et date à déterminer);
- Consentement et engagement du parent/tuteur requis pour les candidats de moins de 18 ans;
- Signer l’accord de participation des joueurs après avoir été sélectionné.
Les détails pour soumettre les noms des candidats seront transmis par l’instructeur en chef de votre dojo.
